We get a sample of blood either from the arm or vagina lining of the dog a few days into the heat, examined to give you a Nmol reading which helps you indicate the best time for a breeding to occur for the best chances of fertilisation.

If you are planning on breeding from your bitch, then measuring progesterone levels is an easy and reliable way of gauging the optimum time to mate. It will also give you a more accurate assessment of when your dog is likely to whelp than mating date because we have a good idea of when ovulation has occurred.

Usually we do a test between the 7 – 12th days; we do this to figure out the best time to breed the bitch.
